Use Style Rules

Learn how to create, manage, and apply style rules to customize translation output

← Back to Help Center

Create a Rule List

  1. Log in to your DeepL account and go to the Customization Hub
  2. Click "New Rule List" in the "Style Rules" tab
  3. Enter the list name and target language
  4. Click "Add Rule" to create your first rule

Add Custom Rules

Each rule includes:

  • Source Text: The word or phrase to match (supports regular expressions)
  • Target Text: The designated translation result
  • Rule Type: Replacement, context, or prohibition
  • Priority: High / Medium / Low

Apply Style Rules

Once created, rules are automatically applied to all translations in that language. In the translator settings (top right corner of the interface), you can select which rule lists to enable. Administrators can set default rule lists for specific teams or users, or enforce specific rules.

API Support

Style rules can be used through the DeepL REST API using the style_id parameter. The API documentation provides complete interfaces for creation, updates, and management.
